Bernard Schulz 04/18/2013 I would propose to gain funding for a new age transportation GPS system placed at ground level that would control a car, you would be able to navigate yourself, in E eco-friendly vehicle, to selected destinations, as well. In theory the cruising strip would be located in the center of the highway, either underground, or above ground. Purchasing GPS chips at 500 per chip, placing these chips at a 1/8 interval per mile, we could create one of these new age transportation paths from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia for ///// million dollars, for material. With added cost of labor, and excavation material, delays, and unexpected costs, I project this venture from South Carolina, to Virginia to cost approximately ////// million dollars, but no more than ////// million dollars. I would hope that these GPS chips could be configured with newer cars to automatically brake, and veer within the lines when a driver where to become impaired, or were to just lose control of a vehicle. I believe that this would cut down cost for insurance companies, and, in addition, it would cut down car crash fatality rates. This new age innovational idea would path the way for a safer transportation system. I would compare this new age system to the steam engine, and the automobile. I would propose to request donations from insurance companies to upkeep this transportation system from a portion of the savings these insurance companies would be saving from liability costs. I believe with donations from insurance companies we can implement this system with no additional costs, after the initial funding. All sides win with this proposal; Insurance companies save, even with contributions for upkeep, and the city, and our society obtain a, safer, new age, transportation system. This proposal would in addition save space and costs of road maintenance. I hope that you will accept my proposal with room for improvement. One benefit from building underground is we would not have as many expenses on road repairs. Rain, snow, hurricanes, and tornados would not be a concern. The only concern would be, earthquakes, and, possible, water seepage, and you can throw collapses in there; with advanced construction methods, I do not believe collapses would be much of a concern. If we could incorporate a GPS transport system, which would be located in the epicenter of the surface, and sub-surface. This system could direct traffic above ground, and below. We could utilize drag, from vehicles, on both layers to power this system; solar, geothermal, hydro, are still, very viable, options, as well. This would create the potential for developing vehicles that would be more aerodynamic. This would cut down on friction, with the reduction of friction, we could gain more speed, while utilizing less energy. All together it would provide a more productive system. Compacting space and construction area, this plan would be comparable in cost with our, current transportation, system.
