Bertrand Russell being the greatest philosopher of the 20th - TopicsExpress

Bertrand Russell being the greatest philosopher of the 20th century championed humanitarianism and complete freedom of thought. His basic concept of life was for a society based on scientific principles, with no wars, population control and the sharing of wealth. He was a pacifist, who was politically active. He was incarcerated twice by the British authorities. On the second occasion he was sent to prison at the age of 89 in 1961.What sort of country would send an elderly man to prison for no reason whatsoever? The tory party were in power at the time, and corruption was rife. Two years later in 1963 they were embroiled in another scandal,`The Profumo Affair´.Profumo had the rather dubious title of`Minister of War´! Russell became disillusioned with socialism, and destroyed his Labour party card in 1965.He realised that religion has done more harm than good. Not only do religions impede scientific progress, but they spread fear in the population and are responsible for many wars worldwide.During the inquisition people were put to death because they challenged the authority of the church, who branded them as heretics. There were many atrocitties committed by religious leaders, they were certainly not men of peace. People are now more enlightened, and very few would believe in the fairy tales which religions propagate. Although Russell was an atheist when on earth, since his transition to the spirit world he has had to reconsider his atheism.Nowadays he is very much alive and has communicated through mediums on earth, passing on the message of hope in eternal life
