Best Parent Ever! When I signed up for parenthood I thought to - TopicsExpress

Best Parent Ever! When I signed up for parenthood I thought to myself ‘I am going to be the best parent ever’ and ‘I’ll teach my kids to behave properly’. Well, 10 years later I’ll tell you this… If you are having either of those two thoughts my answer is “No you won’t because everyone is”, and “ Yes you will but everyone has their moments” … LOL, Let me explain: “No you won’t because everyone is.” Just about every parent I have ever met can tell you their super-parenting moment. And they are all comparable in scale, frequency, complexity, funocity, and spectacularity… ultimately made equal by the positive effect on the kids! Because that’s what parenting is all about right, the kids! Raising healthy conscious and well behaved kids. The best parent ever leaves a positive impression on their kids and the kids of those they interact with and is measured by the effect on your children over time. It’s my hope that all parents are the best they can be because they all have equal opportunity to be the best parent ever to their children. No one parent can stake the claim to being the best parent ever though, because it’s such a matter of perspective. “Yes you will but everyone has their moments” The statement “I’ll teach my kids to behave properly” implies a judgment on others seen in places just like a grocery store. We see a snapshot into their lives where their children have decided to be defiant openly in public and we say to ourselves “I’ll teach my kids better.” Or perhaps we’re visiting friends and their kids are misbehaving while we are over and for some reason or another we think they could be doing something different to get their kids under control. As a parent of 3, I have been the “entertainment” on several occasions for this type of scenario and all I can say is that I know my kids really well… I mean really really well… and in all likelihood the approach I am using is the best approach I have found out of all that other parents and literature and google has to offer. I have tried a multitude of methods on each of my kids and have discovered the right balance, the right mix if you will that works to keep my three kids at a dull roar. Teaching the lessons to curb the behaviors requires some hard moments in awkward and sometimes very public places. But the dividends of that time have paid off in spades, because my kids are constantly recognized for good helpful behavior… I just wish they would be consistently good for me ;)
