Best laid plans, I guess. My son-in-law and I went to the theater this afternoon ostensibly to see "White House Down" while my house was closed up for a few hours after flea bombing. However, after being told where to go and seeing the sign above the door for the movie we intended to see, after the commercials the movie that was shown was "Man Of Steel" instead. I feared the worst because just about every re-make of an original is never as good but I admit I was very pleasantly surprised. The scenes of mass destruction were old hat and there was some deviation from the DC comic book history of Superman but all in all I thought it was really good. In fact, I liked Henry Cavill as Superman better than Christopher Reeve, Amy Adams as Lois Lane MUCH MUCH better than Margot Kidder, Russell Crowe as Jor-El better than Marlon Brando and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White better than Jackie Cooper. It was a toss-up for me between Kevin Costner and Glenn Ford as Pa Kent. On a scale of 1 to 10 my rating for "Man of Steel" would be an 8. So if you want to see a movie just to be entertained, I recommend it.
