Best of the Day -- Had to share this email...for me, this is what it all about. But first a little background...about 6 weeks ago I started seeing this guy up on the mountain I run everyday. I noticed him a few times, mostly because he had a big camo pack on, climbing the hill. I notice camo everywhere but especially up on Mt. Pisgah as there are a lot of “granola crunchers” that enjoy the workout up there. I gotta say, I don’t have anything against granola crunchers, living in Eugene, you can’t. Ha ha...us meat eaters are outnumbered in most quadrants of the city. But I digress. After seeing this guy for about a week I stopped and talked to him at the gate. Turns out his name is Steve, he is 58 and just drew a once-in-a-lifetime sheep tag here in Oregon. So, trying to get in “sheep shape” he figured he better hit the mountain with his pack, and hit it he has. Since I first saw him, I’ve seen Steve up there every single day. A couple weeks ago he said he was a month into his daily regiment and he’d lost 20 lbs. He is down even further now and looking pretty dang good....a noticeable improvement. But the thing I like most about Steve is his attitude...he is always in a good mood up there. The other day I saw him and it was pushing 100 degrees in the valley. Up on the hill, that sits in the sun all afternoon and bakes, who knows how hot it was? Well over 100. So I am hammering up the hill and bump in to Sheep Hunter Steve. I think we were the only two on the mountain that day and in fact he said he’d wondered if there was some sort of national emergency he didn’t know about but would learn of once he got back to his truck. The lack of people was odd on that day he thought. Ha ha. I said, no, no emergency and no catastrophe it’s just hotter than hell and no one but us wants to be on the mountain. We laughed. Well today I decided that if anyone has earned a Keep Hammering shirt it is Steve. I passed him on the hill gave him a high-5 and when I got down I put a Keep Hammering shirt on his truck. He just sent me this email. Steve, thank you for the inspiration and making my day with this awesome message! You’re a beast!!!!! Cam, Thank You for the shirt you left on my Truck. I will Keep Hammering! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the encouragement you have given me during this process. Always positive and encouraging. A "good Job" goes a long ways for a guy not sure if he will make it to the top or not. Going from an overweight "old guy" to an less overweight "old guy in better shape" I think I am going to make it. I am getting a lot of encouragement at home as well. I will be sending you a picture of my Ram while wearing this shirt. 2 weeks left! When this hunt is over I will be looking up Eric McCormack and start a training program. This whole thing is changing my life much more than just a Sheep Hunt. Thank You again Steve
