Best video of the evening before BANG! One of the 480V 60A mercury displacement relays blew its top. Let me tell you, not a good smell, Im glad we were 15 ft above on the second level looking down. Fortunately I paid only $10 at Acme metals for it, it was a $350 relay new. I am guessing self-induction was the death of it. Now its inverted in a covered plastic bucket, residual mercury as well, outdoors until I can contain it in a glass jar. I am currently in need of a better switch. I never did change the frequency this evening, I guessed on that turn (3.5 turns) and am waiting until I machine sturdier primary ribbon supports to continue. Thanks to Bert Hickman, the primary no longer overheats, the coil is happier, spark gap runs cooler, and all the rubber and plastic formerly melted to the $200 copper strap peeled right off when it was cool. (Whew!). Wont be long and this baby will be striking the roof...
