Better Births for CNY Celebrate Birth Event Sunday Sept 14th at the Jewish Community Center, 2310 Oneida St , Utica,NY Noon to 5 PM totallyfree. Come hear our great speakers. I already talked about Ester Zorn and ICAN.Come introduce yourself to our other speakers: Merideth Geers, CNM, MSN is the owner and founder of Family Tree Midwifery of Central New York, PLLC. Her private midwifery practice serves a six county region in Central New York, providing licensed midwifery and womens healthcare services including home birth within a 60 mile radius of her office. The title of her talk today is: Your Birth Your Way. Women are seeking low intervention births and this often involves resorting to low intervention settings in order to achieve the desired outcome.Objectives: 1. To discuss why women are rejecting high intervention birth settings in favor of home or birth center births. 2. How do you envision your birth? High Tech, Low Touch Industrialized Approach or High Touch, Low Tech Cottage Style. Meredith will be speaking at 2:15 p.m. and will also be available to answer questions afterwards. She believes in the midwifery model of care which says, “The application of this women-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.” Mary Yoder,DO from Chiropractic Family Care will be speaking on “The benefits of chiropractic for pregnant moms especially in preparing them for birth”. She will also speak to the topic of “Is chiropractic safe for newborns, infants and children”. She will be speaking 1:30 and be available to answer any questions and concerns you may have anytime during the day. Susan Niedzielski, IBCLC, CDN, will be speaking on “How to make Breastfeeding Work for You”. She will be speaking at 12:45p.m. and is eager to assist in any way. Susan, along with the Mohawk Valley Breastfeeding Network and LeLeche League, facilitates the Breastfeeding Cafes in Utica, Rome and Oneida. These cafes have help new moms have successful breastfeeding experiences as well as make strong friendships. Naomi Starsiak, Doula and Natural Birth Consultant with a A Peaceful Birth will be speaking on “The Benefits of Doulas at Home and in the Hospital”. Naomi will be opening the program at 12:15 p.m. and will be available all day to answer questions about the regional hospital and doulas.
