Better PM Shower Chance Evolves JUNE SCORCHER: By mid day, many cities and towns were already in or close to the mid 90s with triple digit heat indices. Each day has been a little hotter this week. Yesterday and today are probably the two hottest days we will see in this series. Tomorrow will be close as we head to the low to mid 90s. Slow down. Take it easy. Stay hydrated. Make sure your pets have plenty of shade and water. Never leave your pets in the car in heat like this! SCATTERED HEAT RELIEF: With another day in the middle 90s well underway, we will start to see more of those scattered hit or miss storms popping up, which will cool down some very lucky communities. Your odds of seeing a storm are still rather small. Roughly 3 and 10 folks will see a storm this afternoon or this evening, but those that do could get some heavy rain and a lot of lightning. Those storms will tend to fade away in the evening hours, and disappear from the radar by about 10:00 PM. SUMMER STARTS TOMORROW: The summer season begins at 5:51 AM tomorrow morning. Thats the summer solstice. Its the longest day of the year here in the northern hemisphere, with 14 hours and 5 minutes of daylight. Otherwise, its just going to be another typical June day. Highs will be in the mid 90s once again, with a few hot or miss afternoon storms scattered about again. Lows at night will be in the lower 70s. NEW PATTERN WILL DEVELOP: As that big upper high pressure ridge starts to shift toward the west, our atmosphere will start to evolve into a pattern where afternoon storms start to be more numerous in number and coverage. We will start to see about 40% coverage on Sunday, and about 50% coverage on Monday and Tuesday. With the increase in clouds and showers, the afternoon highs will start to ease down just a bit. Highs in the lower 90s are more likely, and eventually near 90 to perhaps some upper 80s by the middle of next week. Next week will be a little more turbulent with a generous supply of those afternoon and evening storms each day. BEACH WEATHER: Typical stuff for the first weekend of summer. Lots of sun. Hot and humid. A few cooling hit or miss storms could interrupt your plans from time to time, but they wont last long. Most highs in the upper 80s Gulf water temperature is 84 near Gulf Shores and 82 at Panama City. --Rich Thomas, Doppler 12 StormVision Meteorologist Facebook: Rich Thomas WSFA 12 Weather Twitter:
