Betty Henry and Dianne Strohman are friends. They are also CAREGivers of the Month for Home Instead Senior Care - Dover, Delaware. And, most important, Betty and Dianne are exceptional teammates. A shared client and her son depend on Betty and Dianne’s care, strategy, journaling, handoffs and even lockstep vacation and day-off scheduling. Why is all that such a big deal? The client is in the later stages of dementia; she’s been in hospice, out of hospice and now back in again. She can barely speak and must totally rely on others. She’s also an enigma – well enough physically to live without hardly any medications. But the dementia is insidious. Betty has the client from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dianne follows from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the client’s son takes over for the rest of the time. The arrangement works great – Betty was the first to join the client, and Dianne settled in as the second regular CAREGiver. Dianne credits Betty with helping her learn the ropes with the client. “Betty is a fantastic CAREGiver who taught me how to manage this situation with our client,” Dianne said. “I give her the highest praise.” Said Betty: “I love Dianne.”
