Between each Otter Trail Run event SANParks gives special permission to Magnetic South and members of its MCSA Mountain Rescue & NSRI Volunteers to run up to 4 x Safety Scout Runs along the entire length of the Otter Trail to continue familiarising themselves with the ever changing conditions in this very dynamic coastal environment. Over and above everyone being ahead of the curve on the trail these scout runs are also an opportunity for the scouting team to carry out independent audits of the trail condition plus chat with the hikers along the way on any important feedback that SANparks can action on issues as wide ranging as condition of overnight huts to information supplied about the trail. Petrus Maree (Field Manager) has been the scouting guru compiling these reports using precise GPS & photographic details of everything from a fallen tree to a broken window handle. With these reports SANParks maintenance teams can focus their energies directly on the issues raised. So when you are fortunate enough to get out there on the trail on either the 22 or 24 September you will know that every effort has been made to ensure you have a run in paradise and every step of the way has been pre checked to add to your Grail Of Trail adventure.
