Beyond Our Wildest Dreams For those who love and are loved by God, eternity will be better than anything we can imagine. We escape to our dreams when life isn’t going well. Our daydreams allow us respite from the difficult realities of life. Often we find ourselves dreaming about that “perfect love”: the one who gives to us without faltering, who always welcomes us with a glad smile, the one who makes us feel safe and secure. True love is better than anything we can dream up. Dr. Seuss put it this way: “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” This theme is found in Scripture as well: “‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’—the things God has prepared for those who love him.’”[1] We can’t get our minds around it. Our imaginations can’t dream up anything to match it. God’s love and the plans he has made for us for all of eternity, according to the Scriptures, are incomprehensible in their beauty and goodness. It is better than any reality we have experienced, better than any daydream. And he promises to give us that love for eternity. Consider This: When do you find yourself daydreaming? What do you usually daydream about? Take Action: Try a different kind of daydreaming this week: think about all the things you long for, all the things you love about life, and all the things you wonder about. Allow those things to construct the most outrageous daydream you have ever thought up. Now reread the verse from 1 Corinthians above.
