Bgrade Match Report Round 6 vs Sportsmans CVNCC 197 def Sportsmans 82 What a win! Sitting on top of the ladder for the first time this year we headed into the weekends game against Sportsmans eager to square the ledger after our disappointing first round loss to said team. With the loss off our two best batsman to work & play, and one of our most consistent bowlers earning a well deserved promotion into Agrade I was admittedly a little worried about out team depth. Game Day in Northampton saw me lose the toss for only the second time this year (both times against Sportsmans), and my opposing captain Conan sent us in to bat first for the first time this year. As previously mentioned I was a little worried about our batting depth and spoke quickly with Trent Simpson and Axis Hutchinson emphasizing that we three had a big role to play. As usual Axis and I headed out to open focused on valuing our wicket. After absorbing to first 10 or overs against the opposition strike bowlers we began to lift our aggression and the runs started to come. Making it to drinks with an unbroken opening partnership of100+ I was happy we had provided the platform needed to achieve a competitive score. Not long after drinks I departed after picking out the single offside fielder at point with the remaining 8 fielders on the leg side (may have been playing a cross bat shot or two haha). Soon after I departed Axis followed on a personal best 31. Trent then sauntered out emanating confidence and proceeded to take apart sportsmans bowlers. He had a few batting partners with Jamie Williams being the longest to survive. Trent fell on a brilliant 50 off 25 balls including four 6s, and the tail enders did what they could with to overs remaining, special mention goes to young 17s player Brayden Perry for his first 6 over long on the a very large boundary! Satisfied with our score we headed out to field with a good vibe within the group. Mitch opened with to wind an claimed one early and provinding plenty more opportunities, young Bailey Pratt pressed into the wind and also claimed a wicket whilst also bowling very tight lines. Giving mitch a rest EJ came in and bowled well also claiming Sportsmans most dangerous batsmen and throwing down some serious pace. After the completion of Baileys 6 overs Troy came on into the wind and systematically dismantled to opposition batting line up. Admittedly his first wicket ball was was absolute poo that almost bounced twice before coming off the bastmans pad outside leg then back onto the stumps. After this however he was brilliant with some great catching from Trent on the boundary helping Troy claim a 5 wicket haul and total 9 wickets in just the previous two games! A brilliant piece of fielding from Trevor Parfitt led to a run out and Mitch returned to claim himself another scalp before the end. We eventually had Sportsmans licked in the 23rd over in another great win especially with 3 key players out. A big thanks to the three 17s lads Bailey, Brayden P & Brayden Mcmath for stepping up and also Lachlan Wesley McMath. Yet again another great win lads lets keep it going! With Wanderers big win over Dongara we need to play well against Towns to gain % and once again claim the top sport for ourselves! Also as a club we should all be striving to play Agrade cricket so lets all en devour to play the best cricket possible and see if we can have a few lads step up and strengthen our hard working Agraders and tireless captain Courtney Mcleod. Cya all at training!
