Demand, will be the reply of any person with a little common sense. But, in East Coast Railway (ECoR), trains originating in Odisha are given the ‘most favoured status’, irrespective of their patronage and those from Visakhapatnam are ignored though they have overwhelming patronage. A few months ago, when a passenger sought a clarification on the issue, the Senior Transportation Manager (Coaching)/Bhubaneswar had informed: “Augmentation is done at regular intervals to clear extra rush, depending upon waitlisted passengers. However, augmentation of coaches in some other trains is not possible due to inadequate stock.” The East Coast Railway has now announced its decision to augment additional coaches to the Puri-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)-Puri Express, Puri-Sai Nagar Shirdi-Puri Express, and Koraput–Visakhapatnam-Koraput Express on a permanent basis with the objective of “providing better passenger amenities and comfort to passengers travelling by these trains.”
