Bible Meditation And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Matt 14:23 (KJV) Devotional Thought In this passage of scripture we find that Jesus sent away the disciples and the multitudes and found a place of quiet and solitude where he could pray without distractions. Would it not be a wonderful thing if all God’s children would find a place of solitude to get alone with God. In our Church there is a prayer room where folks can unite in prayer or get alone and pray. It was built by one of the members, Brother Lester Doss who has since gone Home to be with the Lord, and with the help of some of the other men from the Church. What a legacy to leave as an example of dedication and prayer. The Bible says, “Be still and know that I Am God.” The Lord said in Matt. 6:6, “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Just think of all the joy and knowledge of God we miss by not going into the Holy of Holies and spending time with God alone. Action Point Among the enemies to devotion none is so harmful as distractions. Whatever excites the curiosity, scatters the thoughts, disquiets the heart, absorbs the interests or shifts our life focus from the Kingdom of God within us to the world around us—that is a distraction, and the world is full of them. Distractions must be conquered or they will conquer us. How much time do you spend alone in the presence of God?
