Bible Study Notes - 1/14/2014 It is important to read Acts 8 and 9 to understand Pauls conversion. Martin Luther called Galatians the Declaration of Independence for Christian Liberty. The book of Galatians is an expression of rebuke by Paul to the church in Galatia. Verse 3 - Pauls greeting Grace to you and Peace from God Paul used this greeting over 100 times and in every instance it was in this order. Grace was the common greeting in Greece and peace was the common Hebrew greeting. The greeting encompassed all believers, whether Jew or Greek. grace - charise - divine influence on the heart peace - eirene - quietness, rest (Strongs Concordance) It could also be said that without grace there is no real peace. And with grace you will always find peace. Verse 7 The enemy has always tried to pervert(alter from origional meaning to a distortion of what was intended) the Word of God. In Genesis 2 and 3 he posed the questin to Eve Did God actually say...? When he tempted Jesus in Matthew 4:1-7 he said to Jesus, If thou be the son of God... If as used in this verse mean unlikely, hypothetically. This is the same if used by Paul in verse 8. If I or anyone else comes to you with another gospel, let him be accursed. The word accursed here means to excommunicate. Paul was telling the church if anyone tries to add to or take from what I have preached to you have no further communication with that person. Paul was passionate and confident about this because he received the message of the Gospel by divine revelation. He wasnt taught by man but by the risen Christ Himself. In Acts 9:7 , the men with Paul heard the voice but did not see the light. They heard but either werent ready or werent willing to see. Christ wants to reveal Himself to everyone, but we must be willing to see. We need to pray that God will prepare our hearts to receive the revelatin of Christ. This revelation goes beyond salvation. Salvation is only the starting line. By having an intimate relationship with Christ through prayer and study of His Word, He will reveal Himself to us daily. I am praying that He stir the hunger within each of us today!
