Big Buddy, a male mentoring programme for boys without fathers, was the second recipient of a Jetstar Flying Start Programme grant in 2013. They chose to use the travel portion of the $30,000 grant to take a group of boys and their mentors from Wellington to Auckland for the annual Big Buddy Day Out. It was an important event for the boys, giving them the opportunity to enjoy fun, games and special surprises as well as connecting with other kids who don’t have fathers in their lives.
