Big Lunch Extras Building on the success of the Big Lunch, Big Lunch Extras is a 3 year programme being delivered by the Eden Project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and partnered by Halifax. The free-to-join programme focuses on supporting and equipping residents who want to do more in their community and helps to develop skills, build confidence and spark new ideas that could make a real difference in their neighborhoods. The programme offers: Inspirational events hosted at Eden Project and across the UK. A range of ideas and advice on next steps, including : - activities and projects to try, e.g. community gardens, pop up shops - inspirational stories from around the UK, e.g. People’s Supermarket, Wythenshawe Good Neighbours scheme (established by a participant in a Big Local area) - simple guides to help get to grips with bigger topics e.g. funding, community transport and community energy. An on-line community chat area, where participants can swap advice, ask questions, continue to network and share success stories with others looking to do similar things in their own neighborhoods. A number of previous participants have come from Big Local areas – Barrow Island, Hackney Wick, Leigh West and Northfleet among others – and have returned with increased confidence to put ideas into practice in their areas. Big Local rep Carl Adams attended the 2013 pilot event at Eden, where he ‘got a sense of innovative ways to get communities involved’. He also reports that ‘every single Big Local resident who has returned from Eden has been unstoppable in their enthusiasm in just getting on and doing stuff!’ If you would like to find out more, or apply to join the programme, please visit the Big Lunch Extras website: biglunchextras
