Big Mouth Strikes Again! Top Comedy Club announces brand new gigs in Redcar & Guisborough It’s been raising the roof at Middlesbrough Town Hall for the past five years! And now Boro’s hugely popular Big Mouth Comedy Club is coming to Redcar and Guisborough too. Redcar’s Coatham Memorial Hall and Guisborough Quoit Club will share a double headlining mix of familiar TV faces and some of the freshest and funniest comics on the UK circuit on the first Friday of every month. Tickets for the new Friday night gigs (April 4, May 2 and June 6) go onsale at 10am this Saturday morning (March 1), and include comics with a combined string of TV credits including 8 Out of 10 Cats, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Russell Howard’s Good News, ITV’s Comedy Rocks, and classic sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. Other comics set to appear have supported big hitters including Johnny Vegas, Ricky Gervais, Rhod Gilbert and Milton Jones along the way – and local talent has a chance to shine too, with hotly-tipped Boro comic Natalie Wicks playing at Guisborough in June. Saltburn’s popular Brass Neck Comedy Club is also joining the Big Mouth stable, meaning comedy fans now have not one but FOUR chances to enjoy a Big Weekend every month. Carmel Ramsay of Big Mouth Comedy said: “Our gigs in Boro and Saltburn both often sell-out in advance and always go down a storm, and we’ve constantly had people asking us to bring Big Mouth to different places here and there. “But we’ve always wanted to wait until we’ve found the right venues really. “Coatham Memorial Hall is one of the best rooms we’ve seen in ages. Really atmospheric, loads of wood paneling and memorabilia, and a great big stage that the comics are going to love. “Same with the Quoit Club in Guisborough. It’s the perfect room for Big Mouth, and it’s all just a heartbeat away from the High Street.” Carmel added: “Our bookers have brought Lee Evans, Sarah Millican, Michael McIntyre, John Bishop, Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle and loads more big names to Teesside these last few years – as well as really intimate work in progress shows by Alan Carr and Jon Richardson to Saltburn’s tiny Community Theatre. “But Big Mouth is pretty much the thing we love the most. We have some amazing audiences who know they can trust us to bring the best comics to town, and the comics themselves just love playing up here. “We can’t wait to get cracking with these brand new gigs.” Frankie Wales of Coatham Memorial Hall said: “We’re really looking forward to this. I’m a huge comedy fan, and always thought it would be great to set something up here. “So I was chuffed to bits when Carmel and some of the Big Mouth folks came down one day to have a look round the place. “I was showing them around and started reeling off all the gigs I’d been to over the last few years – Big Mouth and loads of other gigs at the Town Hall and ARC - and said it was amazing that someone could bring Alan Carr to Saltburn. “Turned out it was the Big Mouth folks behind all these gigs, so I think we’re in for some great nights here. We can’t wait to get started.” Big Mouth Redcar. Coatham Memorial Hall, 7 Coatham Road. Friday 4 April: Starring: Dave Johns, Rich Wilson, Peter Brush & special guest MC to be announced. If Carlsberg made dressing rooms, this would probably be the one they’d make. (Can’t think of many dressing rooms that have a boxing ring right in the middle of it). Additional info / brief comic profiles: Jason Cook: The creator, co-writer and co-star of BBC sitcom Hebburn is a huge Big Mouth favourite, and hosts Big Mouth at Redcar on Friday 6 June. “Total and utter joy.” Time Out. Dave Johns: You’ll know Geordie legend Dave Johns from 8 Out of 10 Cats and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. “Genius. Extremely entertaining.” The Guardian. Rich Wilson: Laugh-out-loud London geezer, quickly established himself as a favourite headliner after a storming debut at London’s legendary up The Creek Club. Rob Deering: Shone out a mile on ITV’s Comedy Rocks with Jason Manford, and a top choice at all the best clubs up and down the land. “Inspired.” Daily Telegraph. Eddy Brimson: Wonderful cockney geezer. Starred in Eastenders and Absolutely Fabulous, and now one of the best headliners around. “The crowd loved him.” The Guardian. Matt Reed: He’s done gigs naked, in a cave, up a mountain, too ill, too drunk, and with broken ribs. But huge Big Mouth favourite Matt Reed always goes down a storm wherever he plays. “Brilliant.” The Independent. Andrew Ryan: One of the most exciting comics to emerge over the last year, Irish charmer Andrew Ryan enjoyed a storming gig on Russell Howard’s Good News. “Utterly brilliant. Going to be a huge star.” Time Out. Nige: The shell-suited genius has supported the likes of Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas along the way, and once accidentally knocked Beatles producer George Martin into an ice-sculpture whilst three sheets to the wind. “Give this man a sitcom.” Edinburgh Evening News. Kai Humphries: Supremely funny and truly lovable Geordie has supported the likes of Rhod Gilbert and Milton Jones. Natalie Wicks: Brilliant Boro comic. Easily one of the best new acts we’ve seen in ages. Media contact: For further info, please call Rob O’Connor on 0779 0585 396, or email [email protected]
