Biliran DPWH, LTO set up public assistance kiosks By: Rodrigo S. Victoria NAVAL, Biliran, October 30 (PIA) –With the expected heavy influx of the riding public on the rush to go home to their respective places for the observance of the traditional All Saints Day and All Souls Day on November 1 and 2, two government agencies on Wednesday, October 30, are already in the thick of preparations to assist their needs for a safety and convenient travel. Starting at 5:00 o’clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 30, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Biliran Engineering District Office (BDEO) headed by Engr. David P. Adongay, Jr. district engineer, will put up public assistance kiosks in identified strategic places in Biliran province, said Bern Calomadre, administrative officer V of DPWH-BDEO. Calomadre informed that BDEO will set up one public assistance kiosks particularly in the Biliran town junction that cater to the needs of motorists going to the towns located in the eastern part of Biliran province like in Cabucgayan, Caibiran and Culaba. He also said that two other public assistance kiosks will be set up in poblacion Naval particularly at the corner of Caneja and P.I. Garcia Streets to assist motorists entering Naval town and beside the Naval Gymnasium in downtown Naval for motorists going to the western towns of the province like Almeria and Kawayan including the island town of Maripipi. “These assistance kiosks will be manned by three DPWH personnel” Calomadre emphasized saying these personnel will extend assistance and help motorists particularly in their information needs from 5:00 in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 30 until 12:00 noon of November 4, 2013. Their office is also required by the Secretary Singson of DPWH to submit situation reports on traffic and other areas of concern involving the travel of motorists every six hours to the DPWH regional office. Meanwhile, Grace Carsido, OIC provincial director of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Naval district office today (October 30), informed that two personnel from her office have already conducted safety inspection on buses, vans, public utility vehicles and extended assistance to the travel needs of the motorists in the assistance desk situated at the Naval public terminal. She said that LTO in line with the Oplan Ligtas Paglalakbay 2013 of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) where LTO is part of, LTO will ensure the safety of the travelling public by thoroughly checking the vital parts of the passenger vehicles like brakes, lighting system and other important parts before the vehicle leave to their destinations. She also urged the drivers of the passenger vehicles to cooperate with the LTO personnel who will conduct inspection and likewise advised the commuting public to feel free to seek help from its assistance desk regarding their travel here in the province of Biliran.
