Bill Beaudin of Marietta was honored as a Torch bearer at the Cobb County American Cancer Societys Relay For Life on Friday May 2nd at Jim Miller Park. Four torch bearers led the Luminaria Ceremony Lap marching behind three bagpipes and were followed by hundreds of people carrying candles. Torch bearers are active Cancer Survivors who spend countless hours helping cancer patients and promoting cancer awareness. The Cobb County Relay for Life is a yearly event and is the 5th largest relay event in the nation. Last year they raised nearly $700,000. for the fight against cancer. Beaudin was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago and wanted to talk to other prostate cancer survivors in a support group but there wasnt a support group in Cobb County at that time. With the help of Wellstar Kennestone Cancer Center and UsToo he started a support group. He is also a Board member of the Georgia Prostate Cancer Coalition which is a statewide 501c3 organization that promotes Prostate Cancer Awareness and organizes free screening events for uninsured men. Beaudin is the Department Public Relations Chairman and also the Department Blood Donor Chairman.
