Bill Brown A. W. Tozer is one of my mentors. I read one of his books years ago and found someone who shared my deepest convictions. I have always wished I could articulate my convictions as eloquently as Tozer did. He wouldnt be welcome in many churches today although he is referred to as a spiritual giant of yesterday. Take, for example, what he said about the modern church: Modern evangelicalism has surrendered to the world, excused it, adopted it, and imitated it. . . we have externalized worship in our churches. Jesus put it in our heart but we have put it in side rooms. Jesus put it in our heart but we have put it in the projection booth. . . Most churches and pastors are addicted to gadgets and could not run their church without being more cluttered up with a small truckload of junk than you can climb up a moonbeam. . . The early church were worshipers. . .the early church prayed---talked to God. When they sang, they talked to God and sang about God. Today we have programming. . .but God is absent. Oh! If Tozer could see the church today! We are programmers for sure. We have programmed repentance, confession, brokenness, humility, holiness, and hell out of public worship. We dance with the world and wonder why the world is always asking us to compromise, accommodate, and tolerate. Yet the world still rejects the Cross and the Savior who died on it. I had rather cry alone than laugh with the world. But until Christians have the moral courage to bear the marks of the Cross the church will continue to be irrelevant to an on-looking world. Stand up, friends, and live the crucified life. Our Lord is coming back to vindicate His holy Name and to give a crown of life to the faithful. Unlike · · Share Like · · Share.
