Bill Clinton told a story one time about how he was running for governor of Arkansas two years after he had been thrown out in the previous election. A lot of people believed he had lost because he pushed through a license plate tax hike. Well, as the story goes, Bill was at a country store asking for votes, and the owner said I voted against you last time, but Im gonna vote for you this time. Bill asked him why hed voted against him in 1980, and he said Because you raised the license tax. He then asked the man why he was voting for him this time. Because you raised the license tax. Bill was confused and asked the man why he was going to vote for him now for the same reason hed voted against him two years earlier. The man replied: Because I know youll never be stupid enough to do it again. Whenever I make a big mistake, I take a lot of comfort in that story.
