Bill Dentzer, the new political reporter for the Statesman, posted this on his Facebook page. Heres my comment on his posting: Bill, the real story here (with significant political implications) is your reference to what the economist recently told a business group. Please write a story about that - it bodes poorly for Idahos future. Young, upwardly mobile members of the workforce are either leaving or rejecting Idaho and taking their income growth potential with them. They are being replaced with people more likely on stagnant fixed incomes. The result: lower state revenue, increased demand (and cost) for social services and a growing electorate more interested in asset preservation than investment in the future. Hard to pass school bonds, approval for local option tax, etc. - especially when everyone who votes no gets two votes for everyone who votes yes (2/3 majority to pass). It appears Idaho Republican Party leaders are more interested in competing for fiscally conservative voters than they are competing with other states to retain and attract employers with good-paying jobs. That requires investing in Idahos future, not a government that governs the least.
