Bill Lanning, 82 passed away on January 18th in Winnie, TX. I was instantly reminded that Bill was a good friend of my dad, Joe McClelland. Although Bill was a few years older than him, they shared many good-times as young boys and teenagers growing up in Orange. One of my favorite stories dad shared about Bill was hed come to his window on many a Saturday morning as a kid and would wake him up by saying, Hey Joe...you wanna go ride stick horses? Dad would sleep with his window open and his bed was near the window (you gotta remember this was the late 1940s early 50s and A/C was a premium if at all). Dad wouldnt pass up an opportunity to spend time riding stick horses with Bill and other friends in the old neighborhood. Bill was a character and full of life. Hed often tease dad about stealing mom, Judy McClelland away from dad! I didnt know Bill well personally, but thought a lot of him as a kind, special, loving human being. God Bless you Bill Lanning.
