Bills to take action on! CALL Your Legislator TODAY! SUPPORT Bill Sponsors Description SB 1915 Sen. Ron Justice & Rep. Biggs Sustainable Agriculture and LocalFoods These bills all play a role in easing government restrictions on small farmers and local food producers and making it easier for them to sell their products at Farmer’s Markets and other local food events to the general public. SB 1184 Sen. Paddack & Rep. McCall Ending Exemption for Mining Permits This bill changes the Department of Mine’s permitting procedure to require a formal hearing before issuing a permit and allowing the public the opportunity to be heard. SB 1430 Sen. Schulz &Rep. Dewitt Drought Proof Communities Act This bill helps assist small communities in implementing water conservation strategies. OPPOSE Bill Sponsor Description SB 1440 Sen. Bingman & Rep. Sears Harming the Wind Industry in Oklahoma Wind puts people to work in good jobs and is helping us keep the money we spend on our electric bills in Oklahoma. This bill’s discussion in the legislature has already threatened developments in Oklahoma and if passed would place an arbitrary moratorium on locations in half of the state that according to an outdated map has below a “fair” potential. HJR 1006 Rep. Biggs & Sen. Fields Dangerously Ambiguous Constitutional Amendment These resolutions, given the “Freedom to Farm” name, place an item on the ballot that protects against a nonexistent threat to agricultural practices while inadvertently placing a constitutional protection on animal cloning and genetic modifications. HB 1674 Rep. Blackwell & Sen. Brecheen Destroying Science Education This bill, the so-called, Scientific Education and Academic Freedom Act, undermines science education in our state and thus threatens business development as well as our award winning geological, meteorological and biotechnology research centers. SB 1187 Sen. Standridge & Rep. Martin Threatening the Safety of Drinking Water Water is one of our state’s most valuable resources and clean, safe drinking water is something our citizens rely on. This bill threatens our drinking water quality. SB 1456 Sen. Griffin & Rep. Turner Increasing Fees On Residential Solar Consumers Distributed generation, such as installing solar panels on one’s house, decreases the amount of capacity needed during peak load (usually the hottest and sunniest summer days) and helps reduce costs for all consumers. Forcing people who make this large capital expenditure that benefits all causes them to pay more for electricity costs is fundamentally unfair as well as providing a negative incentive for positive behavior. *DISCLAIMER: These positions are valid for bill language as of March 19, 2014. Positions may change as language is modified during the legislative session. NOTE: As the session progresses, we will continually monitor bills and will potentially add additional bills to our list.
