Billy & Reid mentioned the new Sly and the Family Stone box set yesterday which reminded me of Channel One AM radio in Hickory. I can remember them playing Sly Stone, followed by Deep Purple which was followed by Three Dog Night. Then some Temptations, Hendrix, Joplin, Otis then and Alice Cooper. And all my memories about this center around long, hot summer days hanging out, swimming, playing ball, cook outs and just being outside for long periods. No ipods, cell phones, video games, and everything else that occupies peoples time now. Music on a portable radio, and lots of interaction with my family & friends. So today, I peeled back the pool blanket, put up the umbrellas, put on Sly & the Family Stones greatest hits and swam with my daughters for two hours. Course, the first thang Lola asked when leaving the pool was "Dad, you charge my Ipod?"
