~~~#~~~ Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) has found foreign snails on a container that arrived on our shores on Sunday. Officials stationed at the Queens Wharf discovered two large snails on Sunday and another ten last night. The container was onboard the Capitaine Tasman which arrived from Vanuatu capital, Port Villa. The snails were discovered mostly on the bottom of containers carrying cargo on the ship. FBC News was allowed access to the Queens Wharf this morning where containers were still being unloaded, undergoing fumigation before they touched Fijian soil. BAF officials told FBC News, there’s a possibility that more snails are in the remaining containers. The officials have put bait around the perimeters of the Queens wharf, a precautionary measure to stop the snails from getting out of the premises. .....The snails will be sent to the laboratory for further investigation.
