Bishops Cleeve 1 Magpies 3 After going a goal down to a penalty after 6 minutes, a hat trick by Mark Gamble turned the game round and saw Wimborne achieve their second 3-1 away win in four days, against a Bishops Cleeve side that has shown some good recent form and were above Wimborne in the table. Steve Cuss made two changes form Wednesday’s starting line up, with Jon Blake and James Stokoe replacing Sam Griffin and Matt Kemble. Wimborne suffered a bad start when, after five minutes a cross from the right wing struck Billy Maybury’s hand, and the ref. pointed to the penalty spot. Joe Hanks despatched the kick and Wimborne were a goal down. Most of the remainder of the half was a stalemate, with both sides cancelling each other out. There was a fair amount of enterprising football, but as play got nearer to the goal areas the moves tended to break down rather too easily, and as a result neither keeper was given anything to test his capabilities. It took a moment of brilliance five minutes before the interval to end the stalemate. A long clearance from Dan Ackerman was headed back by a defender. Gamble, racing forward, controlled the ball on the run and, with his second touch, from 25 yards hit a dipping shot over the keeper. The remaining five minutes saw a re-invigorated Wimborne side surge forward. The Cleeve keeper had to rush outside his area to get to a though ball just before the onrushing Gamble, who shortly after had shot just over the bar, and Jamie Davidson had a speculative shot wide of the post. The second half looked likely to produce more goals, with chances being created at both ends, though Wimborne had the lions share and looked the more likely to score. After 25 minutes there were no further goals, and a draw was starting to look to be on the cards, but then Gamble struck again with another excellent goal. Some neat interplay between James Stokoe and Jamie Davidson set Gamble in full flight down the left. He cut back inside his marker, took the ball across the area and fired into the net from 12 yards. And with 5 minutes to go, he completed a fine hat trick when he raced onto a through ball, controlled it well under pressure from two defenders and slotted it under the advancing keeper. This was an excellent all round performance by Wimborne, who have now scored three goals in each of their last three matches, crowned with a show of top class finishing by Mark Gamble. Wimborne Town: Ackerman, Arnold, Maybury, Wilson, Brian, Blake, Davidson (Kemble 88), Hubbard, Gamble, Webb (Griffin 59). Subs not used: Costello, Roast, Ackerman.
