Bismillaah Walhamdulillaah WasSalaatu WasSalaam Ala Rasulillaah. AsSalaamu Alaykum w.r. w.b., Line Thin Cloth Usamah bin Zaid (radi Allahu anhu) narrated: “The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) gave me a relatively thick piece of material known as Qibtiyah which was presented to him by Dahyah al-Kalbi. I gave that material to my wife. The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) asked me, ‘How come you did not wear the Qibtiyah?’ I replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah! I gave it to my wife for her dress.’ He said, ‘Ask her to make a lining for it; I am afraid (because of its being quite thin) it may outline the frame of her body.’” [Musnad Ahmad] On another occasion, some women from the tribe of Banu Tameem came to visit Aisha (radi Allahu anha). They were wearing dresses made of very thin material. When Aisha (radi Allahu anha) saw them she said, “If you are Mumin, this is not a type of dress suitable for Mumin women. But if you are not Mumin, then do as you please.” [Tafseer Qurtubi, vol. 14, p. 244] Am I a Mumin? Servants of Another Ummah The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “In the last days of my Ummah, there will be women who will be naked despite wearing clothes; their heads (due to their hairstyles) will look like the humps of slim fast camels. If you see them, curse them, because they will be deprived of the Mercy of Allah. If there were to be another Ummah after you, these women of yours would be their servants in the same way as the women of the previous Ummah serve you.” [Musnad Ahmad] Are my clothes adequately covering my body or am I naked despite wearing clothes? Do I have hair piled up on my head looking like a hump? What should I do? Ayaat 166-167 of Surah Baqarah tell us that on the Day of Judgement those people who disregarded the commands of Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) and disobeyed Him to follow and please others, will be enemies to each other and all relations between them will be severed. On that Day, the young will blame their elders for not letting them obey Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) and observe Hijab, while the elders will say that they had no control over them, they only asked them to disobey, but did not force them. Then how frustrated and helpless will those people feel who had disobeyed Allah to please others around them? How sorry and miserable will they feel when they realize that the people they had tried to please and on whose account they are to endure such grave punishment, are denying all responsibility for their wrong-doing and are accusing them of being guilty instead!
