Begin at KLMUC Job Responsibilities The task of an English Language teacher is to encourage students to communicate with each other using the structures and vocabulary they have learnt, and improve on the four basic language skills: listening; speaking; reading; and writing. Typical responsibilities may include: •classroom management •planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes and age groups •preparing and setting tests, examination papers, and exercises •marking and providing appropriate feedback on oral and written work •devising, writing and producing new materials, including audio and visual resources •attending and contributing to training sessions •participating in marketing events for the language school •preparing information for inspection visits and other quality assurance exercises •freelance teaching on a one-to-one basis •basic administration, such as keeping student registers and attendance records Qualities of Effective English Language Teachers •Able to stimulate intellectual excitement in the classroom •Able to use psychology in class – motivate, encourage, concern and helpful •Able to promote positive emotions, atmosphere of respect and sensitivity to students’ feelings Skills and Training Students can enroll for the Diploma in Education (TESL). This programme is a professional qualification specially designed for those who use English Language in the area of teaching. This programme provides a comprehensive teaching and educational practices, covering a broad range of subjects. Teachers can gain an understanding of the discipline and proficiency, system of the language through computer-aided learning that incorporates pedagogical skills in teaching. It also includes a supervised TESL practicum session which is the key to assessing capabilities in the classroom. Course Objectives •Produce competent graduates equipped with professional knowledge and training in the field of TESL, specifically in ESL pedagogy and ICT with orientation in research as a life-long learning process •Train graduates to be effective communicators and teachers of the English language •Enhance teachers’ knowledge in designing and implementing courses that meet the demands of English learners and challenges in the field of TESL. •Contribute to the field of TESL as a preferred and certified profession with the programme as a benchmark for employers and stakeholders.
