Bit of a long read but recently a few people ask me what cardio I do to stay lean here is my answer Cardio Vs Weight Training I feel that everyone should find a type of exercise that they find enjoyable in order to stick to it and reduce the chance of skipping a workout. Saying that, I still feel that resistance training is ideal for fat loss. Here are my main reasons why 1. Weight training burns more calories than cardio overall Depending on the duration and intensity of your workouts, it’s most often true that cardio burns more calories than a weight training session. BUT The key here is that it is only true for the duration of your workout. Whilst doing your cardio, you are only burning calories while you are on the machine. The second you step off, the calorie burn stops. With weight training, although you may not feel like you are working as hard or even you might not sweat as much, you will continue to burn calories for up to 48 hours after your workout due to your body burning calories to repair muscle. 2. Weights change your body composition for the better First thing, your diet is what helps you lose weight, and resistance training is what changes they way your body looks. Doing cardio does help with fat loss, but it only breaks down your existing tissue leaving you with a soft, skinny fat look. To get that ‘toned’ look, you need to lift heavy weights and build lean muscle. Doing a million repetitions with pink dumbbells and these 30 Day Squat Challenge is basically another form of cardio, and it’s not going to change your body shape and will not BUILD A BIGGER BUM (ladies). In conclusion, if your a marathon runner or looking to build long distance stamina then keep doing cardio for hours BUT if you looking to get in shape, burn fat and tone up, resistance training is needed!
