Black History Fact:Cassius Marcellus Clay was born on October 19, 1810, in Kentucky. His father was a slave-owner, but Clay became influenced by abolitionists in college. In 1835, he joined the Kentucky legislature and was defeated in 1840 due to his slavery views. He published the anti-slavery journal True American. He continued to participate in politics, but shortly before his death in 1903, he was judged mentally insane. Muhammad Ali was originally named after him by his father.
