Black Metal Circle Another name for this group would be the “Black Metal Mafia.” This is more of the criminal fringe where a lot of stereotypes started. The Black Metal Circle was founded by a man who named himself after a Greek deity of death, Euronymous. Euronymous and his followers were musicians who played black metal. They believed Satan to be a “Spirit of Evil” who only wanted to spread misery and suffering worldwide. In order to “serve” him they began a campaign of church-burning, graveyard desecrations, and murders. It was a big point of Euronymous and his followers to target historical Norwegian monuments. One case was where they burned a church down in which there were still people inside. One reason given for such acts was it would be believed in doing this, it would cause Xtian fanatics to grow. Euronymous was insane and working to create a man-made apocalypse. The Black Metal Circle was very well organized, and managed to get away with crimes for a couple of years. It wasnt until a member of Black Metal Circle, Varg Vikanes (converted to Odinsim), killed Euronymous in 1993 that the group was stopped. Demonolators People who worship the demons rather than Satan himself. According to their beliefs the demons arent fallen angels, but rather pre-christ Pagan deities who represent the darkness in nature. Diabolators This is a more generalized term which is open to a variety of theological views within Satanism. Diabolators believe in Satan and believe in worshiping him. A major qualification for being a Diabolators, Devil Worshiper, is that you take a devotional approach to the Powers of Darkness. Whereas most Satanists place emphasis on the powers of magic, Devil worshipers express respect to the Powers of Darkness and refer to them as Masters. The organizations dedicated to the Devil worshiping are Church of Azazel, Order of Eternal Darkness, and Temple of Diabolical Youth. Deistic/Pantheistic They are like LaVeyanist in that they do not believe in Satan as a person being. They believe Satan to be an impersonal force which is one with all things. Also, they focus on the Dark Doctrines which are based upon the assumption of history that the Hebrew word Satan is derived from a pair of Sanskrit terms, “Sat” meaning pure existence, and “Tan” meaning stretching forth. Sat is the force of being which causes all and everything to exist. Tan is the force that causes evolution and metamorphosis. The 2 primary churches are the First Church of Satan (in Salem, Mass.) and the Satanic Reds. -Deism: is a movement or system of thought advocating natural religion, emphasizing morality, and in the 18th century denying the interference of the Creator with the laws of the universe. -Pantheism: is a doctrine that equates god (or in our case, Satan) with the forces and laws of the universe. Duotheists Xtian-based Duotheists are theistic Satanists who believe in a form of Satanism that is essentially inversified Xtianity. They believe Satan isnt a god, but rather the bible based fallen angel who has rebelled against the Creator and is attempting to take, by force, the Creators throne. LaVeyanism These Satanists take their name from Anton Szandor LaVey, who authored The Satanic Bible and founded the Church of Satan (C.o.S.) in 1966. They believe a more atheistic approach of Satanism, where the only “god” is the Satanist themselves. LaVey viewed Satan as an imaginary character who represents the dark force in nature. Invoking “Satan” and the Infernal Names is used as a tool to help focus ones energy during rituals in order to overcome their inhibitions. Modern This type also takes on the atheistic approach to Satanism, though they are not labeled as LaVeyanists despite their almost identical similarities. Modern Satanists more or less came into being after Anton LaVeys daughter, Karla LaVey, split off from the Church of Satan due to differences in Satanic ideals. Karla is now a High Priestess of the First Satanic Church, which claims to be a closer spirit to that of her fathers teachings. Rebel A form of Satanism where most misfits and social outcasts use the “evil image” of Satan as a release. This type of Satanism is commonly associated with the Gothic lifestyles (though this is not to imply that Goths are social outcasts and degenerates). Being a Rebel Satanist is usually a phase and most move on to something else after it gets “old” or they find a “cooler” belief. Setians They believe the Prince of Darkness, Set, is a god who is responsible for creating consciousness (the ability to perceive, to be aware, and take deliberate action). To understand this we must delve into Egyptian history so that we can grasp the Setians concept called Xeper (pronounced Kheffer or keff-fer). Xeper means “I have come into being.” The Egyptian sun god, Ra, would proclaim Xeper each morning at dawn after his nocturnal journey into the underworld. Set would protect Ra during this journey from Apep, the serpent of darkness and chaos. While protecting Ra, Set made it possible for the sun to “Xeper” each morning. This myth is symbolic of Sets power to allow us to become newly created beings with each self-determined action that we take in life. Setianism was founded by Dr. Michael A. Aquino in 1975. Aquino was a priest at Church of Satan until LaVey and himself got into a dispute regarding the existence of the Dark Prince. He then started his own church, Temple of Set. One night Michael Aquino supposedly wrote the Setian holy text, The Book of Forth Coming Light, during a ritual in which he channeled the Prince of Darkness. Theistic Theism is the belief that at least one deity exists. There are 3 different kinds of Theistic Satanism, all of which are listed below. 1. Gnostic - The belief that the material world is created through an intermediary being (Satan) rather than directly by the Xtian god. They are distinguished by the conviction that matter is evil and emancipation (or the release from a higher influence) comes from gnosis (or knowledge). Unlike the Gnostic Xtians who believe that it is necessary to abstain from worldly pleasures in order to rise above the material world, the Gnostic Satanists believe in order to transcend they indulge themselves in worldly pleasures as well as gratifying their sinfulness. Satan is acknowledged as the serpent that is depicted within the story of Adam and Eve. Therefore Lucifer is worshiped as the Bringer of Light, who helps overcome the imperfections of the earthly existence by enticing us to indulge rather than self-denial. 2. Luciferianism- They embrace Lucifer as a spiritual and enlightened being. While they incorporate the enjoyment of ones life, they accept that there are greater and more spiritual goals. Many see Satan as the carnal, rebellious, and materialistic aspect while Lucifer is the enlightened and spiritual side. In this is the belief that there is a balance of light and dark. 3. Spiritual - They are aware of the existence of Satan as an actual being. Satan is perceived to be the True Creator God. Whereas, “Jesus Christ” is referred to as a fictional character who contains properties of 18 Pagan legends. The nazarene is only a tool to remove all spiritual knowledge and disarm the populace of their spiritual powers. Spiritual Satanists firmly conceive Satanism predates Xtianity by thousands of years and is based upon a plenary transformation of the soul. Questioning everything is highly encouraged along with exploring knowledge to become self-sufficient and keep the sacred commitment (whatever the individual chooses to make- note this is not a selling of the soul) to Satan.
