Black Out? When you silence William Dock Walls you silence all of us. For Immediate Release: For more Information Contact BRUCE CROSBY 872-226-2942 or Lisa Michelle 708-715-3228 WALLS CALLS FOR FAIRNESS FROM WTTW Stop the manipulation of Chicagos Non-PARTISAN MUNICIPAL Election. The Non -partisan Chicago municipal election is s schem put together by Rich Daley and Micheal Madigan in 1991 to make it more difficult for a Black person to be elected Mayor of chicago. It increased the signature requirement making it the largest signature requirement in America to run for Mayor or any other Office and requires the winner to have to win 50% + 1. There is only one challenger in the History of the Non-Partisan election in Chicago who has qualified not twice but 3 times. That is William Walls. But WTTW,The City CLUB.The CHICAGO Urban LEAGUE wont invite him to the mayoral Debate. WTTW says its because he does not have a Million dollars. Well Harold Washington didnt have that either. Why are these organizations manipulating the Election ?It must stop. We are here today to call out this clearly racist tactic. You are not just enemies to the Black community but all of Chicago. When you silence William Walls you silence all of us. Why is CBS2Chicago excluding William Dock Walls from Mayoral Forum There are no independent polls conducted or commissioned by any news media source, since the Mayoral ballot has been set. The only poll floating around is a Rahm Emanuel spin poll, the results of which were printed by Crains. That poll did not include William Dock Walls as a named candidate. Furthermore, ABC 7 and the League of Women voters made it clear that there is no independent poll showing any candidates strength or weakness. Therefore, ABC 7 and the League of Women Voters included all 5 candidates in their televised debate. There is no objective empirical data that would support Shawnelle Ritchies assertion, that my base was not strong enough. To date, the only objective assessment of any mayoral candidates base rest upon the premise that any candidate certified by the Chicago Board of Elections as having submitted 12,500 valid petition signatures, is a viable candidate. We had over 300 unique, individual, petition circulators. Our campaign has a voluminous base of volunteers and supporters. Our campaign is as robust as anyone could reasonably expect. We have an active daily campaign schedule. We have an accomplished website which includes at least 18 well developed, comprehensive, policy positions. We have more presence on Social media than any other campaign. We are in good standing with the Illinois state Board of Elections. This bias is consistent with a pattern of anti Black manipulation which WBBM has engaged in before. A Prime Case for Newsroom Diversity mije.org/health/prime-case-newsroom-diversity Professional journalism groups and the NAACP have criticized CBS station WBBM for violating one of the basic tenets of journalism ethics. Now, U.S. Rep. Bobby L. Rush, D-Ill., whose district includes part of Chicago, has directed his staff to investigate the incident so he can decide whether to take action. Ferguson said Rush has directed her to contact the station and determine what happened and why. Depending on what she learns, she said, Rush may take action that could include calling for a congressional hearing. Rush sits on the House Energy Subcommittee on Communications and Technology. The panel funds the Federal Communications Commission, which issues broadcast licenses. WBBM is owned and operated (O&O) by CBS. According to a 2010 census report by this reporter under the auspices of the National Association of Black Journalists, the station has no people of color on its news management staff. NABJ advocates for fair coverage of communities of color by encouraging stations to reflect the diversity of their metropolitan areas. Diversitydata.org shows that people of color constitute approximately 45 percent of the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet metropolitan area.
