Blair best for growth Savills will publish its forecast for the housing market this week. It has also chosen to look back at the performance of the market under each of the past five prime ministers. It found that Tony Blair oversaw the highest house-price growth, while the greatest levels of housebuilding came during Margaret Thatcher’s tenure. “A lot of the issues we face now reflect what happened under Tony Blair from 2001 to 2004, when house prices went up 63%,” says Lucian Cook, director of residential research at Savills. “It fundamentally changed the dynamics of the market. People began to aggressively move up the housing ladder.” thesundaytimes.co.uk/sto/style/homes_and_gardens/Move/article1477788.ece
