Blessed Ramadan to You All! My gift to you from my archives on the occasion of this Sacred month. It may be your gift to others too. A testimony a friend shared with me.....and I believe it serves the Maker well if I also share it with you. Rabiu, as a professional teacher, I woke up that day with only GHc 12 on me and I needed to wait for at least 6 days more before time for salaries. After taking my bath and fully prepared to leave for school, someone knocked on my door. There came the voice of a woman, Massa gaafara. To wit, excuse me, Master. I opened and it was not just a woman but a mother with a baby on her back and two kids following her. Dasiba (good morning), she said, going down on her knees. I could not respond to the greetings because I couldnt wait to let her get to her knees. So, I held her up and asked that she sat on my 3-in-one lined chair. I then responded, nnaa (good morning). She began her story as tears stood on her eyes........... My husband is a labourer working with a certain contractor. Theyre doing some work at Yape........and in two weeks now he hasnt visited us. The food he left with us before going got finished yesterday. These children have nothing to eat today. I have come to ask of your help to buy one bowl of maize so that we can manage with it in the meanwhile. I sat for a moment, breathed heavily and asked her how much a bowl of maize would cost. She soberly answered, GHc 1.5. Out of my GHc 12, I gave her GHc 10 and asked her to buy four bowls, then use the remainder to manage soup. She tried to go down on her knees the second time but I refused and quickly escorted her out because all the time she was in my room, I did my best to prevent my tears from rolling. Indeed, when I returned, I wept; not because of what I gave but what I felt. On my part, I raised my head, looked at God, and said, Yaa Allah, its only you who can show a soul where and what to eat this day. I leave my stomach to you. So I left for school with GHc 2. After my first lesson, I sent a pupil to go and get me some waache with the GHc 2. Before I was done with it, I got an unexpected call from Mr. Sumaila, the MD of SCONES SECURITY. He asked of my whereabout and I told him I was at Kaladan E.P JHS. He asked me to meet him at his fathers residence at Sakasaka. I took a colleagues motorcycle because my fuel couldnt have taken me that far. I got there and after greetings he said, it seems you last told me you needed some assistance to buy a laptop. I nodded in the affirmative. He said, ok, I will give you some GHc 500. It may help you. He signed a cheque of the said amount for me and as I tried going down on my knees to say Naawun deei mi Suhugu, (may God bless you), he refused me that, and held me up. Instantly, I felt I would give the woman more if I could locate her but I couldnt find her again. This happened in 2009. Hmmmmm......., this world!!! Lets leave everything in the hands of our maker. God has His own ways of doing things. Maybe He sent the woman from nowhere to test the gentlemans faith. Have a clean heart and the courage to share. For nothing is stronger than the power of sharing. Only Allah knows where the food of every soul is! You can share this post so that others will also benefit from your benevolence. Alhassan Rabiu
