Blog for this week: The Truth About America Romans 8:31 “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” The fight for independence of our nation was a battle that God had His hand in. The Colonist were fighting for the freedom to worship God without the dictates of the government. And when we fight for the furtherance of God’s kingdom He will always stand beside us as we fight. Consider these incidents from the Revolutionary war and see if you don’t think God helped to secure our independence. The British troops and their commanders felt that they were the finest, most powerful, best disciplined troops in the world. Yet a nation’s safety, its victories and its failures are all in the hands of the almighty God and not in the power of a human army. At the beginning of the Revolutionary War, there were many skirmishes between British troops and Colonial troops. These Colonial troops were known as Minute Men. They would shoot at British troops from behind trees and then run away. England felt that the situation called for reinforcements, but more troops was not going to be the answer. In one battle, after two assaults, the Colonial army was very low on ammunition. When the ammunition ran out, they had to use their bayonets. Those that could, used their rifles as clubs. The Colonist were greatly outnumbered and it looked like the British were about to win, when suddenly, for no reason, the British withdrew. Fort Ticondaroga was a British outpost that had to be taken to secure the safety of New York. When the Colonial troops went to attack it, for some reason, the gates stood open. The guards of the fort tried to fire upon the Colonial troops, but their rifles would not work. The fort was taken without a shot being fired. There were also reports of Colonial troops who were fired upon and yet not hit by any bullets. Time after time Colonial troops reported bullets flying by them and not touching them. It is only by the hand of God that we can be preserved. The same God that was in the beginning of America is the same God that’s in America today and it’s the same God that watches and take care of each and every one of His believers. If God be for us, who can stand against us. - Minister John Favel
