"Blood Red Version" Pokémon… Something I’ve been with since - TopicsExpress

"Blood Red Version" Pokémon… Something I’ve been with since the day it was first released. I was 9 years old at the time. I would always beg for my parents to get me a Game Boy Color, and one of the new Pokémon games. At first, my begging seemed to go in vain. A year went by, and no signs of my wish being granted. However, on my 10th birthday… I was getting ready to blow out my candles on my birthday cake, when my parents showed up, my mother hiding something behind her back. I asked what she had, and what she showed me made my heart soar. A Game Boy Color! A beautiful icy blue one at that! My father grinned. “There’s more to it than that…” He pulled out… a Pokémon Red Version! I squealed in delight, forgetting my cake and hugged my parents, thanking them repeatedly. They finally granted my wish! I didn’t’ even bother unwrapping my other gifts. I got my new Game Boy Color and my new Red Version and got to work playing. It started up normal, like any game. It did bother me a bit I had to play as a boy, seeing as I am a girl. But I shrugged it off and continued to play. Eventually, I was allowed to choose a starter. The moment I saw him, my heart melted at the sight of him. Charmander. He looked so adorable! I instantly picked him, not even bothering to look at Bulbasaur or Squirtle. I nicknamed him “Blaze”, with some help from my Mom to spell it. Of course, my rival wanted to battle me with his Squirtle. I battled of course, having no choice. Blaze easily won, which pleased me. He was going to be a fine Pokémon someday. I played my game like normal, Blaze winning many battles, including almost every Gym Leader, despite the first two, Brock and Misty, had the type advantage. By the time I was battling the Elite Four, my Blaze was now a powerful Charizard. No one lasted 5 minutes with him in battle. However, he wasn’t alone. I had my other Pokémon. Aqua the Vaporeon, Flight the Pidgeot, Sparks the Raichu, Drake the Dragonite, and Grace the Nidoqueen. But Blaze managed to shine out of all of time I easily beat the Elite Four, and beat Blue like it was nothing. I earned the title of Champion. I felt proud. Blaze was everything I wanted. A powerful Pokémon whom many couldn’t defeat or bring down, even if they had the type advantage. He even squared against Mewtwo, the most powerful Pokémon in existence back then. I even was able to beat my friends with Blaze alone. My life was perfect… Until, one day… I learned that more Pokémon games, called Gold and Silver, were going to be released. I felt excited. New Pokémon?! Brand new adventures?! I got Silver the day the game was released. I instantly forgot about my Red Version, which was left in a shoebox in my closest for safe keeping. I forgot about Blaze. I instantly got hooked on Silver, getting my starter, a Chikorita. As the years rolled by, more and more games came out, to where I forgot about my Red Version utterly. Skip to the current timeline, where I am attending college. My love for Pokémon had long since gotten stronger and showed no sign of dying. Even some of the other college students still held their love for Pokémon, and were old time players like me. I was soon able to move into the dorms. I went back home, and began to pack my bags. As I searched around in the closest, I suddenly saw it… The shoebox! I opened it, and felt surprised. My old Red Version! I had completely forgotten about it after Gold and Silver were released! Slowly, the pleasant memories of my adventures with Blaze came back in my mind. A joyful grin came to my face. Perhaps I should try playing it again, for old times sake. And I’m sure I can see Blaze again. I’ve missed him dearly. He was, after all, my first Pokémon. Placing the game back in the box for safe keeping, I finished packing and went back to my college, into my new dorm. Once settled in, I got my Red Version out. It was still in great condition, due to the box keeping it safe. However, as I examined my old game, I noticed… it seemed darker? It didn’t really brother me as I placed it in my silver-colored Gameboy SP. I would soon regret ever turning this game back on… It was until I saw Red on the screen before the loading screen that I saw something was wrong. He looked pale, and his eyes were black, as if the eyeballs had been gorged out, with blood coming out like tears. A gaping hole was in his chest, which caused some shivers to run up my spine. But I shook it off, assuming it was just a glitch. I started up my game like normal, my save file still the same. However… The last time I saved those years ago, I was in a Pokémon Center. But to my shock, my character was in what seemed to be the Pokémon Tower. The place was heavily fogged and looked eerie. Even the music sounded eerie, even more eerie than usual. Shaking my fear off, I walked around, deciding to explore. I encountered no wild Pokémon. As I kept going, the music grew more and more eerie, to where it became a demonic rumble. I suddenly heard faint cries… It sounded like my Pokémon team! Only the cries sounded very distorted and… almost demonic. I quickly got the start menu up and looked at my party. My heart leaped into my throat. Blaze was missing from my party! However, I still had my other five Pokémon: Aqua, Flight, Sparks, Drake and Grace. I checked on them. To my horror, when their sprites showed up, they looked decayed, had some of their limbs missing, and their eyes were nothing more than black holes with blood coming out like tears. But where was Blaze? I got out of the menu and forced myself to continue, despite the fear I was feeling at this point. I went through the Pokémon Tower like normal, despite the demonic music and the fog got thicker. Finally, I made it to the top. I saw a figure waiting for me. As I got closer, I saw who it was. Blaze. My Charizard! I went up to him and hit A, soon regretting it. The following text showed up: “Why did you abandon me?” Suddenly, it hit me. He meant why I stopped playing my Red Version those years ago! But… how was this happening?! I felt so scared at this point. I wanted to turn my game off, but I couldn’t. Something made me continue playing. Blaze continued to speak. “Am I worthless to you?” A YES/NO popped up. Of course, I said NO, he still meant a lot to me! He was my first Pokémon! “You rotten liar! You abandoned me! Forgot about me… Now, I shall make you feel the pain I’ve endured all these years. Look at what I’ve become!” A battle began. It said, “Blaze wants to battle!” His sprite almost gave me a heart attack. It was just as gruesome as my team’s sprites! He was decayed, decomposing… His wings were almost skeletal with little flesh on it. Half of the skin on his face was gone, revealing some of his skull, and an eye socket with a glowing red light in it. One of his arms was a skeleton, dripping with blood. His torso had a gaping hole in it, with his organs hanging out. One of his legs had some flesh on it, but the bone was exposed. His flame was a deep blood red… My trainer sent out Aqua, who gave a distorted cry. She was level 70, while Blaze was level 100? How did that happen?! I attempted to have Aqua attack with Surf, but instead, it said, “Aqua refuses to obey!” I felt chills going down my spine. Blaze, however, attacked with an attack I never heard of before: Deathly Flame. The screen flashed red several times as my Vaporeon became engulfed in black flames. Aqua fainted instantly. However, text appeared as she fainted: “Thank you… for freeing me…” I was confused. It went on like this with the rest of my team. They refused to listen to my commands, and allowed Blaze to “free” them. Soon, my Trainer took the place of battling. Instead of using Deathly Flame like he had been using, Blaze’s sprite suddenly charged at my Trainer’s sprite, the screen flashing red. A distorted scream was heard. I almost dropped my Gameboy SP in utter shock. Soon, the screen became black, but I saw a faint outline of Blaze, his socket glowing red. More text appeared… “I’ve set my friends free… Free from your horrible cruelty toward them… You left us to die… But now… I shall… free… myself... And join my friends…” Suddenly, the screen flashed red several more times, a Charizard’s cry was heard, but it sounded as if it was in horrible agony. For a split second, I saw it… Blaze’s skeleton. He had killed himself… To free himself from me… Soon after, however, I saw more skeletons. But they were the skeletons of the Pokémon I’ve held dear back then! Aqua… Flight… Sparks… Drake… Grace… After the skeletons were shown, I heard all five of them giving out disoriented cries of anguish. The screen then went completely white. Finally, my fear forced me to turn my SP off. What I had witnessed left me horribly terrified. I never once played my Red Version ever again. I didn’t want to experience what happened ever again… I had been forced to watch my Pokémon die, and Blaze committing suicide to join his friends… I got a hammer and destroyed the cartridge. As I finished, I saw a red liquid forming from the pieces… I screamed as loudly as I ever could. I had just killed my childhood. Gone forever… ~Fenrir
