Bloodybla column. Three years ago. We are standing in traffic jam somewhere in North London. Sunny autumn day. Cars are moving slooooowly from time to time. Finally car ahead moving ahead, then braking hard to full stop and I’m touching its rear bumper. Oh, shit! We both are getting out of our cars, lady X is complaining that she’s just got the car out from repair, but there is no damage, not a scratch left. The other person is sitting in the front seat and not coming out. Police officer is joining us from the other side of the road where some road work is going on – “Is everything OK? No one hurt? No damage? Exchange details and carry on”. We do. No hard feelings, just a bit upset. One year later. ...From A*** Solicitors - “We are instructed by the above client “X” who sustained personal injuries as a result of a road traffic accident in 2010. Our client considers that the injuries occurred through your negligence.... a) Pain, Suffering, and Loss of Amenity (soft tissue injury to her neck, headaches and high blood pressure); b) Loss of earnings, out of pocket expenses, care and assistance...etc” Multiple calls to insurance company – case sorted. Oooops, two years later. ...From B*** Solicitors - “We are instructed by the above client “X” who sustained personal injuries as a result of a road traffic accident in 2010. Our client considers that the injuries occurred through your negligence....” Multiple calls to the next insurance company – case sorted. Oooooops, Nearly Three years later ...From C*** Solicitors - “We are instructed by the above client “Y” who sustained personal injuries as a result of a road traffic accident in 2010. Our client considers that the injuries occurred through your negligence.... A description of our client’s injuries is as follows: Neck, upper left back, headaches... etc” Call to insurance company “-Why the hell it’s another name –“Y”?” “-Well, it’s probably another person from the car” “-But it was not mentioned in any of previous correspondence and denied in accident description!” “-Well... Shit happens” “-No shit?” “-No. Send this letter to us, we’ll take care of it.” “-Thank you!” Guess what I think now about the system and doctors who work on assessment of these cases now.
