Blue Eared Kingfisher vs Common or Small Blue - TopicsExpress

Blue Eared Kingfisher vs Common or Small Blue Kingfisher ============================================== The first image is that of the Blue Eared Kingfisher which has more deeper blues and deeper Orange underparts compared to the Common Kingfisher. This was photographed at Tambdi Surla near Goa. If you thought Goa is well know only for beaches, you are wrong. It has some of the most beautiful forests in India and excellent for birding and photography. The second image is that of the Common or the Small Blue Kingfisher. This was photographed at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. Posting both the images for comparison. As you can see, the Blue Eared Kingfisher has the blues around the ear compared to the common kingfisher which has the Orange....thats one of the key differentiating factors. When you are photographing close-ups of birds, it is always good to have front lit subjects. In the Blue Eared Kingfisher, the light was from backside and hence I had to use the shadow recovery tool in Adobe Camera RAW to show the details in the underparts. Digital photography is all about understanding the 4 pillars of photography which is Subject Knowledge, fundamentals of Photography, Understanding your equipment and the shooting technique and finally post processing. Your photography is incomplete if you do not have a good hold on these 4 pillars of photography. Watch out for online webinar of these 4 pillars of photography which will be announced soon. Have a good weekend.
