Blue Jasmine. New. Directed by Woody Allen. This is a light and interesting movie about Cate Blanchett, a wealthy woman living in Manhattan until her despicable, cheating husband (Alec Baldwin) gets busted for fraud and goes to jail. The government takes everything she owns, so she now must find somewhere to live.... she goes cross country to live with her estranged sister in San Francisco. Her sister is not at all wealthy, so of course she must adjust, big time, to the small apartment and working class folks the sister hangs out with. This conflicting set of values between the wealthy and working class is the fodder for most of the comedy in this flick....and it works. Such is the premise of this movie, which is sometimes very funny, sometimes pretty sad, but all the time entertaining and involving. Woody gets fine performances from his cast, and I liked this movie, and you should, too.
