Boca Bearings presents one of this year’s Innovation Contest entries! Elysium Exoskeleton The Exoskeleton creator’s goal is to augment his strength by a factor of at least 2-3 times, which he has already successfully proved in his recent prototype test where he curl 170lbs effortlessly -- and thats only at half system pressure. The end goal for that motion is to be able to curl more than the world record, which is believed to be around 300lbs. Down the road, he hopes to make the exoskeleton very flexible, modular. This project is loosely based off of the exoskeleton shown in the movie Elysium, starring Matt Damon. There are a lot of functional reasons why exoskeletons could be useful -- disaster relief, restoring ability to people with disabilities, being able to do manual work with ease -- the list goes on. Its maker has always been fascinated by the idea of them in movies, now he has the chance to make his own! The project uses spherical rod ends for the shoulder joints which allow much greater flexibility than just a regular bearing. Though amazing, the Elysium Exoskeleton is only one of many contenders in this year’s Innovation Contest.
