Boca Bearings presents one of this year’s Innovation Contest entries! Bussola Bussola is a work of art. Its purpose is to have a certain effect on the viewer. The machine consists of forty identical elements that all move -each with a small phase shift- in the same way, creating a repetitive yet organic motion. The assembled parts come across as one single moving form that behaves like a natural organism, a skeleton-like creature that seems to be traveling through space. Its creator wanted to create a sculpture that appears as a complex moving unity when in fact its a collection of identical and simple components. All made possible by making use of 46 radial bearings, 6 of which are used in the driving mechanism, the other 40 are situated on the axle holding the white moving elements. Though mesmerizing, Bussola is only one of the many entrants in this year’s Innovation Contest.
