Boca Politics - Our City Leaders Miss the Point, thats why I am in - TopicsExpress

Boca Politics - Our City Leaders Miss the Point, thats why I am in this race! This past week I spoke at the Council workshop and meeting to highlight something in my opinion is a significant concern. The Pension offices CEO resigned and the Pension Analyst (next in command) resigned. Numerous accusations were outlined in the minutes including destroying minutes, removing pension folders, and other activities. Regardless on your view of benefits, this is serious stuff (probably criminal), and leaves essentially no one with knowledge to administer complex pension calculations. About 750 retirees, $565 M liabilities, and over $400M assets. Craigs message: 1) City needs to loan someone to manage ASAP (not just monitor) 2) Call for independent review of process and calculations Unfortunately, I dont think people understand how serious the matter is. The Pension Trustee Board is voluntary and time consuming. When dealing with peoples benefits, we need to be sure the calculations are correct. Expertise lies within the staff that is now gone. The discussion that followed my comments unfortunately highlights Boca Politics is more important than real issues. Bottom-line, if the pension calculations are wrong, City tax payers and residents pay. If employment lawsuits fall out of this mess, City tax payers and residents pay. Wake up Boca! We should all call for action on the issues not the politics! sun-sentinel/news/palm-beach/palm-politics-blog/sfl-election-season-means-union-jabs-for-majhess-20131114,0,765225.story
