Bodofa Cultural Complex at Kokrajhar inaugurated by Mohilary From our Correspondent KOKRAJHAR, June 26: The Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary on Wednesday formally inaugurated the Bodofa Cultural Complex designed in the line of Sankardev Kalakshetra of Guwahati, situated at Chandmari, Kokrajhar in the river bank of Gaurang for the visitors. The cultural complex, the biggest treasure of art and culture of the Bodos and other indigenous communities of Bodoland was built at an amount of Rs 21.21 crore. The construction of Bodofa Cultural Complex at Kokrajhar is conceptually and directly to promote tourism, youth welfare and infrastructure for organizing exhibitions, seminars, fairs, festivals etc. and global interaction as well as exchange for the encouragement of ethnic potentials. The project was taken up under Rs 500 crore BTC package. The sources from the council said the Ministry of DoNER, government of India agreed to enhance the estimated cost of the project to Rs 18.44 crore. The project was sanctioned in the year 2005 and took eight years for completion. Sources from the BTC said the unique and remarkable tribal art and culture of this region mostly remained unknown and inaccessible to the rest of the world due to lack of proper community outreach programmes. The council has taken initiative to focus on this vanishing treasure in the field of art and culture of the region and to find an appropriate outlet to the nation and the rest of the world by way of constructing of Bodofa Cultural Complex which is also part of making the dream of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to establish the Bodo art and culture worldwide. The cultural complex will have facilities of gate complex, auditorium, museum, administrative building, Sangeeet Natak Akademy and Art Gallery, open air theatre, craft village (Bodo traditional type), staff quarter, food court, craft personnel hostel, sculpture court, services including electrical sub stations along with emergency power supply provisions, water supply, drainage and sewerage etc. The bronze statues of Bodo traditional dance inside the complex became one of the most attractive structure. Sources also said there are more essential requirements in the complex which includes power back up during the event of power failure, construction of VIP and public car parking area, public toilets, boundary wall extension, renovation of existing watch tower, installation of AC in administrative building and other buildings other than main auditorium. An additional amount of Rs 2 crore is required for the completion of additional works, the sources added. A cultural demonstration by the Bodoland Cultural Centre, Ramfalbil and Lwrgi Theatre Group was shown to the guests and public inside the newly inaugurated auditorium hall. The Lwrgi Theatre Group presented a drama–“Gabjrinai” meaning the “Calling”. The inaugural function was also attended by Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary, Speaker Paniram Brahma, MP– Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary and other distinguished guests.
