Body Language # 2 - How to spot a liar. Generally, a person who is lying to you will avoid making eye contact. His physical expressions will be limited and stiff with few arm and hand movements and he tends to touch or scratch his nose or ear. But lying is hard because you need to think up the lies, suppress the truth, try not to contradict anything and you must remember the story. A liar is likely to look as though they are thinking hard for no good reason, talking in a strangely impersonal tone. Police interrogators have a better strategy to spot the liar. 1) Have people tell their story backwards; 2) Let them talk without interrupting and use silent pauses to encourage them to give as many details as possible.
