Body Language: Body Language is merely a complementary tool to the communication process and all the elements that make up the interaction. If you are so busy ready the body language that you miss what the meeting or negotiation is about, it is not serving its purpose. Understanding Body Language … is reading the unspoken word. For instance: ‘With a glance he became a closed door; he put up this don’t—bother-me look, so I knew to stay away from him. But if I have to deal with him at some of those times, I keep it short. I don’t joke or anything – I did once and he went nuts, so I get monotonic, almost moronic with him’ Tips to read Body Language: • Always read cluster gestures and calculate a meaning. Never read a single gesture as a meaning. • Try to join the personality of the person to their Body Language, to make a sure assessment. Read the whole picture. • Assess the cultural background of the person or the group and keep that in mind. Spatial Zones: Do you know the radius of your intimate space? How do you maintain that space?
