Body cameras are an expensive piece of gear which have terrible - TopicsExpress

Body cameras are an expensive piece of gear which have terrible real-world use and engineering problems. So many assumptions are sold along with the body cameras (marketing gone over-the-top), it is just a sales play not a solution for law enforcement. The 360 car mounted systems work. The body cameras would have NEVER caught this incident on tape. NEVER. The body cameras would not have caught the OK trooper raping multiple women. If the city is to invest in mobile police cameras, they should NOT be parroting fake marketing speak of the security vendors and instead start learning about the technology and how to really use it. There simply no way this panicked officer (probably a tad racist too) reaches up to hit the on button of a body camera before going completely out-of-control and ballistic. It would never happen in the real world, regardless of the broken marketing speak. Hard-mounted, full time, automatic, tamper-proof, 360 degree, HD car mounted systems are what we should have bought. Instead, our police bought some CYA-gear at our expense. Those body cameras will 98% of the time to be used to show citizen misconduct but it will rarely be provided to show police misconduct. By the way, it costs a small fortune and I think that the county police departments probably could have done this as an internal IT project at a fraction of the taxpayer expense. Think about it.
