Bodyweight Training is part of every workout I program for my athletes. From the warm up, to the power / explosive work, to the supplemental training.... Bodyweight exercise is powerful, regardless of the level of fitness your athletes hold. Sometimes we take the strongest athletes and go bodyweight only to get them to refocus and regain respect for the power of their own body. It also gives the joints and mind a break from the aggressive nature required of battling against heavy barbells, etc. Im reminded of the power of bodyweight training on a regular basis, especially when a varsity athlete shows up The Underground Strength Gym telling me he can bench 300 and squat 400 but he cant do 5 pull ups or 10 push ups. Strong is STRONG, not just under a barbell but with your bodyweight as well.
