Bomb defused at Foreign Ministry: Zeidan Tripoli, 11 September 2013: Prime Minister Ali Zeidan revealed that government security forces defused a large explosive device near the Foreign Ministry in Tripoli last night/early this morning intended to explod at the same time as the Benghazi bomb. Speaking at today’s lunchtime press conference, Zeidan said that these “terrorist acts” by the powers or forces of “evil” were aimed at sending a message that the target is the February 17th Revolution itself and Benghazi, the cradle of the Revolution. As has become usual with the Prime Minister, he refused to specifically name who he thought was behind the defused Tripoli bomb and hence leaving room wide open for wild speculation. Zeidan would only go so far as to say that that “they” want Libya to be an area for killing and explosions. He stressed that this is not a battle between a government and opposing political forces or concerning the ineffectiveness of the government, but that it – the “terrorist act”- is a challenge to the people as a whole who had rebelled and rejected injustice and wanted to achieve democracy and the state of the rule of law and civility. Zeidan made no mistake of the significance of the timing of the intended bomb, linking it directly with 9/11.
